My pottery is primarily wheel-thrown, altered, and assembled using a porcelain clay body and fired in reduction and salt-fired kilns.
I have always enjoyed making pieces that can be functional forms for everyday use as well as presentation pieces for special occasions. My forms are inspired by the decorative arts and influenced by my reverence for plant forms in nature. My intent is to artistically integrate these influences together with function so my work expresses a single vision.
My pottery is primarily wheel-thrown, altered, and assembled using a porcelain clay body. The appeal of porcelain is that it results in a brighter glaze response and in the fluidity that captures movement and gesture. These qualities along with the responsive sensuous of the clay are particular to my own aesthetic sensibilities.
The creamer and sugar set, vase and the occasion cups are the mark of collaboration between myself and sculptor/designer and studio mate. Our ongoing process brings sculptural expression to functional ceramics.
