Many thanks to everyone that purchased raffled tickets, either on-line or at the show…we had a great response and definitely sold enough to qualify for the matching funds from Tito’s! Winners are listed below with each piece.
Lily Jar with Dogwood White glaze. It is 12.5" high and 7.75" in diameter, and was fired in a wood kiln. The Dogwood White glaze was inspired by Chinese and Japanese white finishes for pottery with a thick coating that resembled icing on a cake. In 1928, the Busbees of Jugtown entered a vase, made by Ben Owen, in the Dogwood festival with this white glaze. The vase was awarded best in the show and from that time forward, the glaze was named Dogwood White. The rich color of the red clay enhances the white glaze coating to create a striking color contrast. The scalloped design on the base directly reflects the heavy Asian influence in Ben III's form and design, a common theme in his body of work. The scalloped design is commonly seen in early Chinese glazed pottery during the Song and Tang Dynasties, as well as in early Japanese techniques. Retail value $350. Winner: Jim Levesque
Jinsong Kim, of Seagrove Art Pottery, created this lovely hand thrown vessel that is designed with a caliper and compass. It is cutout and carved with florets and dots added. We are halfway between a porcelain and earthenware clay temperature. We are unique in getting vitrification of a porcelain and color of earthenwares. Dimensions: 12” high, 10” wide. Retail value $650. Winner: Jennifer Waugh
